Why The DGLux UI Skin Is Dark
We are often asked about why we chose to create a dark user interface skin for DGLux. The overwhelming comments seemed to be that the application looks sophisticated and very attractive, many customers stated that it was a great move because it caught people's eyes right away and immediately made us stand out from the rest. Although this was one of the reasons why we chose to proceed with the dark skin, we had always tried to communicate that it was definitely not the only reason.
We have always been of the opinion that the focus should be on the content being created in DGLux rather than on the toolset itself. Thus, we have darkened the skin to improve the user experience and allow the user to focus on the image or application they are creating. By eliminating the brightness of the UI skin, the focus is brought completely to the stage, creating a more immersive experience into design creation.
In this video, taken straight from the laptop of the Photoshop Senior Production Manager, Bryan O'Neil Hughes, you can see that Photoshop is beginning to adopt a darker interface, which matches many of Adobe's other programs, including Lightroom. We agree with Adobe's decision to make the dark look default in Adobe Photoshop CS6. We think that we will see more and more software companies move away from the lighter, distracting skins and adopt the darker, less-intrusive themes.
